We Effect is recruiting a Regional Financial Controller to Southern Africa

We Effect Southern Africa consists of four countries with programmes in Zambia, Zimbabwe, Mozambique and Malawi. We Effect employs around 65 members of staff and the regional budget for 2018 is approximately USD 11 million.

As Regional Financial Controller you have the overall responsibility for implementation, monitoring and further development of the systems for financial management and administration of the We Effect Southern Africa Region to prevent corruption and improve cost efficiency. An important task is to ensure that all recipients of We Effect funding – partner organisations or otherwise – are knowledgeable of and adhere to We Effect, Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) and other donor specific regulations. Another task is that you will play an important role in developing competitive budgets in applications and make sure application requirements are met.

We Effect Southern Africa is organised in a team structure where active participation through exchange of experience, continuous dialogue and creation of synergies is stimulated.

As a member of the Regional Management Team, the Regional Financial Controller shall actively contribute to the work and goals of the management teams.

The duty station for this position is at the regional office in Lusaka, Zambia. You will travel frequently in the region and to our head office in Stockholm. As Regional Financial Controller you report to the Regional Director at the regional office in Lusaka.

Main responsibilities

  • Financial management and cost efficiency of We Effect Southern Africa operations
  • Plan, carry out and follow up financial compliance monitoring and capacity building of all We Effect supported operations in Southern Africa
  • Lead and coordinate, support and train the Country Financial Controllers

General responsibilities are to ensure that procurements, audits, financial reports, budgeting, accounting for We Effect and partner organizations are carried out in accordance with We Effect guidelines and policies.

You have several years of experience in financial management in an international context and organisational development. You are mature and well-grounded. To succeed in the role your ability to organise, communicate and lead are of importance. You have excellent ability to plan, prioritize and organize your own work. You have an eye for details, the commitment, experience and tools to support your team to succeed in their roles. You have good social skills, broad networks and are a good communicator. You know what it takes to deliver results.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience of working as a financial controller
  • A minimum of 2 years of management experience
  • Excellent skills in financial management and budget analysis
  • University degree within accounting or similar
  • In-depth knowledge of international institutional donor requirements, especially European Commission and Nordic donors
  • Experience of working in an INGO
  • Strong analytical skills and strategic outlook
  • Strong oral and written communication skills in English

Employment conditions

The position is open for any nationality with possibility to secure a work permit in Zambia. It is a local employment contract with local terms and conditions. The employment contract is two years (with the possibility of prolongation) and begins with a 6-months probationary period. The contract start is s beginning of 2019.
