Organizational Context

We Effect was founded in 1958 to support the development of democratic organizations and societies that have the capacity to articulate the rights and needs of their members in respect of work, influence, services, incomes and livelihoods.

We Effect works in more than 20 countries in Asia, Eastern Europe, Latin America and Africa through our regional offices in partnership with local CSO, farmer organizations, cooperative federations and other democratic organisations.

We Effect applies a human rights-based approach in its international development cooperation programmes, assisting people living in poverty to secure their rights and entitlement to adequate living conditions and broad empowerment.

Objective

The intern will support the Finance Office at the Regional Office in Nairobi as follows:

Policy and procedures

  • Support in ensuring compliance with procurement procedures.
  • Support in ensuring financial reporting compliance.

 Financial documents

  • Ensure that financial documents are updated in CROPS and verification for each partner (that is, budgets, requisitions, and financial monitoring tools).
  • Financial reports and are signed by each respective Officer.
  • Support in the preparation of payment and petty cash vouchers as aided by the Finance Officer.
  • Voucher updates and review of vouchers to ensure they have the necessary supporting documentation and are stamped.
  • Support in filling and scanning documents, invoices, vouchers, and various partner documents like reports, and agreements, among others.

 Other Support

  • Any other support that may be required by the Financial Controller or delegated Officer.

 Working arrangements

  • 40-hour week with a hybrid working arrangement.
  • Intern will report to the Financial Controller or delegated Officer.
  • Intern to arrange for own medical insurance and be eligible to work in the country of assignment.
  • The Terms of Reference may be subject to change based on organizational requirements and priorities.
  • There is no expectation of employment at the end of the internship.

Qualifications

Interested applicants with the following qualifications are encouraged to apply.

Education

  • Degree in any of the following disciplines: Accounting, Finance, Economics, Commerce, Procurement, Business Administration/Management, Human Resource, or a related qualification from a recognized institution.
  • Professional Certification (CPA or ACCA) or specialized training in accounting desirable.

Work experience

  • A minimum of two years of working experience in a finance-related field or business administration/management.

 IT Skills

  • Proficiency in the use of computers and MS Office software packages.

Language Skills

  • Fluent in English and Kiswahili.
