We Effect provides specialised technical assistance and ensures that environment and climate change adaptation is mainstreamed in all activities.

We Effect has long experience of working with environmental issues, especially in relation to rural development.

The support to partner organisations aims to enhance their capacity to influence policy formulation and advocacy and to promote and facilitate linkages/networks with specialised environmental and other organisations. We Effect also supports specific activities and working approaches, including the promotion of organic agriculture and agroecology, rain harvesting techniques and sustainable land management.

The new Global Strategy makes environmental sustainability mandatory in all development programmes. To further strengthen and emphasise the importance of environmental issues, a global capacity development project will be implemented during the upcoming programme period.

To emphasise the strategic relevance and necessity of these perspectives more strongly, We Effect will implement a global capacity development project during the coming 5-year programme period. The project will be directed to We Effect staff and partners in selected countries.

Over 50 years, Placida Odencio and her husband Isidro have transformed an area of wilderness on the outskirts of Philippine capital Manila into a farm that supports them, their children and grandchildren. They have had to work hard, and at times have not had enough to eat.

"We adapt to the changes", says Jamia.

In the longer term, climate change is a threat to Jamia and other smallholder farmers in the region. In March and April 2019, Mozambique was hit by two tropical cyclones, Idai and Kenneth, just six weeks apart. They caused devastating flooding along the country’s central and northern coast. In the Niassa Province, where Jamia lives, climate change has brought drought, floods and soil erosion.
